Visa Requirements

Unfortunately, the European Union (EU), of which Spain is a part, seldom issues work permits to non-EU citizens unless they are married to an EU national.

Hiring Procedure

SpainOnce we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of Spain, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview at the center to which you are applying. Please note that any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant. After successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training. This will also be held at one of our language centers and is free of charge.

Teaching Contracts

Instructors work from October to June of each year with a compulsory 3-month break between July and September. You receive a set salary for the entire nine-month period which corresponds on average to a 30-hour work week. Please note that while the monthly salary is fixed, the number of hours worked may vary from one week/month to the next. Should the number of hours specified in the contract be exceeded, additional payment will be made at the end of June.

Taxes and Pension Plans

Salary deduction corresponding to taxation and social security contributions are made in accordance with Spanish law, based on a sliding scale of earnings. At present deductions are approximately as follows.

Getting Started

Our experience has shown that you will initially need to bring approximately €2,500 - €3,000 to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses, and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred until the first salary is paid. It is necessary to open a bank-account on arrival as monthly salaries are paid by bank transfer.
