Residence Permit/Visa

In order to work for Berlitz in the Czech Republic, it is necessary to have an EU passport or a Czech residency visa. The necessary paperwork you must bring with you is:
- Original Birth Certificate
- A passport valid for more than a year
- A copy of your criminal record from your country of citizenship (US citizens need a certificate only from the Czech police stating that they have no criminal record in the Czech Republic)
- Four passports photos
Some documents you will need here are:
- Landlord statement (proof of address in the Czech Republic)
- Czech Criminal Record
- Your Birth Certificate translated into Czech
- Various forms that are provided by Berlitz

Hiring Procedure

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of the Czech. Republic, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview at the center to which you are applying. Any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant. After successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training. This is an intensive seven-day training and must be completed before you begin teaching. A pre-training deposit of 3,000 Czech crowns is required for the training. The deposit is fully refunded once you get your work visa.

Teaching Contracts

The standard contract entitles teachers to social and medical coverage. Working hours are flexible and change from day to day, week to week. Extended availability is requested i.e. daytime + evening time + Saturday mornings (if requested by clients). Unpaid travel is required for larger corporate contracts within the metropolitan area.

Getting Started

It is recommended to bring approximately $2,000 depending on the duration of your stay, to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses, and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred. It is necessary to open a bank-account on arrival, which facilitates the transfer of monthly salaries, payment of bills, etc.
